Professional Graphic Design Experience
With over a decade of working as a professional graphic designer, I have gained a breadth of experience in different design disciplines, including:
• Extensive experience in direct mail marketing design with effective copywriting that speaks to a niche market.
• Logo and branding design for a variety of businesses, including the creation of style guides for consistent visual identity.
• Focused advertising campaigns in print and digital.
• Web design, including HTML/CSS, Javascript, Wordpress, Drupal, ClickFunnels, and MailChimp eBlasts.
In all of these areas, I have been able to work with the demands of clients while still adhering to design best practices, and putting out a quality product that effectively communicates the client’s message.
Game Design Experience
My introduction to graphic design was in creating tabletop games as a hobby, and I’ve continued to do so for more than fifteen years. Though not done in a professional capacity, designing for games has greatly enhanced my overall abilities as a graphic designer, teaching me numerous design skills:
• Effective and engaging visual communication of complex information in a limited amount of space.
• Creating a visual language that connects separate parts — cards, tokens, and other components — and tells a cohesive story.
• Page layout of large documents, balancing detailed and technical information with visually-appealing graphics and diagrams.
Tabletop games are a visual medium, the design of which is a marriage
of package design, user experience design, and visual communication.
of package design, user experience design, and visual communication.
Designing for Fun
Alongside the professional design and the game design, I also engage in visual arts just for fun. Exploring different artistic mediums helps me to keep my design skills fresh and interesting. Practicing new techniques for creating different visual effects, exploring new software or tools for design, developing new ideas to keep the creative juices flowing — all are beneficial byproducts of designing just for fun.
